iPhone 15: What to Expect from Apple’s Upcoming Release

Back in September 2022, Apple unveiled its iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, but speculations and whispers about the iPhone 15 have been circulating since well before the latest iPhones hit the shelves. As the impending launch date draws nearer, the rumor mill is abuzz with exciting tidbits about what we can anticipate in this year's release.

Apple is set to introduce four iPhone 15 models, mirroring the sizes of the iPhone 14 lineup, comprising two 6.1-inch iPhones and two 6.7-inch iPhones. One of the 6.1-inch models will serve as the standard iPhone 15, while its 6.7-inch counterpart will be known as the iPhone 15 "Plus." The other pair of 6.1 and 6.7-inch iPhones will belong to the premium "Pro" category, potentially sporting higher price tags compared to previous years.

Following the precedent set by the iPhone 14/14 Pro lineup, the most exciting features will likely be reserved for the iPhone 15 Pro models, justifying the additional cost.

Rumors thus far hint at a transition from the Lightning port to a USB-C port across all iPhone 15 models. Additionally, the Dynamic Island feature, which replaces the notorious notch that has adorned Apple's flagship iPhones since the iPhone X, is expected to grace the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, alongside the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, promising a sleeker and less intrusive design.

For connectivity, Apple will rely on Qualcomm modem chips, as its in-house modem chips are still in development. Furthermore, we can anticipate the incorporation of new UWB (Ultra Wideband) chips for compatibility with the Vision Pro headset. The standard iPhone 15 models will receive an upgrade to the A16 chip present in the iPhone 14 Pro models, while the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature faster and more efficient 3-nanometer A17 chips.

The Pro models are also slated for several design improvements, including titanium frames, slimmer bezels, and subtle alterations like curved device edges. The iPhone 15 Pro Max may even boast periscope lens technology for enhanced zoom capabilities.

According to renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to embrace a 48-megapixel camera, potentially marking a significant leap in photography capabilities.

One of the most exciting developments is the expected adoption of Sony's cutting-edge image sensors in select iPhone 15 models. Sony's latest sensors double the saturation signal in each pixel, enabling better low-light performance and addressing exposure issues, especially in backlit conditions. These sensors use a semiconductor architecture that separates photodiodes and transistors, resulting in more photodiodes. It remains uncertain whether all iPhone 15 models will feature this sensor technology or if Apple will reserve it for the top-tier "Pro" models.

In terms of pricing, it's speculated that Apple will maintain consistency with previous models. The base model, the 6.1-inch iPhone 15, is expected to start at $799, while the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus may commence at 899 US dollar.
